International Women’s Day has never been the same as this year. As we are currently in the middle of a pandemic, events and gatherings don’t take place. The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day should therefore not come as a surprise: “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world”. Today we celebrate the tremendous efforts by women and girls shaping a more equal future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
WHY WE CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
International Women’s Day has been celebrated for over 100 years. The movement was started in 1909 in the United States but was made a public holiday across Europe in 1910 by the German feminist Clara Zetkin. The first ever International Women’s Day was organized a year later in 1911.
The 8th of March is now widely recognized as the day we celebrate women’s achievements throughout different fields. This day is also celebrated as a reminder to all of us that our actions now will shape a more gender equal future for the next generations.
WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP - MOUFIDA DKHILI'S THOUGHTS ON ENGINEERING AND GENDER
As this year’s theme is “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world”, we had the great opportunity to ask Gisica’s Co-Owner and Branch Director in Tunisia, Moufida Dkhili, on what drove her to become a female leader in a traditionally very male dominated field – engineering.
Gisica promotes people on their skills and competence basis. In true International Women’s Day spirit, gender plays no role. There are no “good old boys”, but there is a brilliant staff consisting of competent Gisica people.
